When we first started talking about trolls in the beginning of the week my table was split on our opinions about trolls. There were a few of us that don't see it as a big deal. They thought that trolls are kind of funny, and don't see the issue as a big deal. The other half of us kind of got upset at the idea of anonymous trolls. We honestly don't get it. We don't understand why people feel the need to negatively involve themselves in things that don't pertain to them. We see trolls as mean individuals that feel the need to stir the pot in horrible ways.
We share our opinions with our tables quite often, but rarely get the opportunity to share with everyone. I'm just curious as to what the rest of the class thought. Do you guys think that anonymous internet trolls aren't that serious? Or do you think that they pose a threat to our society?
Though not all anonymous internet trolls are serious, I still think that they pose a serious threat. The main reason for this is that, whether or not the troll was serious, what was trolled usually has at least one commenter that takes what the troll posted at face value and interacts with the troll. The reason why this is a threat, is that this interaction with the troll tends to derail the conversation from the original topic and also tends to lead the conversation to heated arguments and personal attacks because of what the troll brought up or accused someone of.
ReplyDeleteI think that trolls are funny in their in own way, not because of their actions but because of the fact that they take time out of their day to make you feel worse. Makes you think how much of a loser they are.
ReplyDeleteBut doesn't it make you feel sick to know that these people find it funny to hurt complete strangers? I know that most people see these comments that trolls make and just laugh. However, there a people out there with a more sensitive persona that take mean and anonymous comments to heart. I do agree with you in the fact that trolls are losers though.
