World Hunger

I decided to pick this article about World Hunger “Can We End Hunger in the Next 15 Years?” written by Åsa Skogström Feldt. I wanted to touch on this subject since we recently have been learning about food waste, and I thought, “Why can’t we find a way to provide for the hungry with the good food/leftovers we’ll eventually throw away?” Also would we be able to solve this global problem and how? Feldt claims despite the increase in world population World Hunger has declined 216 million people since 1990-92. World Hunger isn’t just food, it includes clean water, sanitation, safety-net systems, Feldt says in order to achieve this goal our first step lies within our community. “This type of development - community-led development - is critical to ending hunger by 2030.” Other factors would include Global commitment and creating programs to help in order to make an effective and sustainable way for people to reduce and end causes of hunger.
Eating is so vital to our life, people don't really know how much food is being thrown away, if you really think about it less complex the only reason we eat whether an expensive steak or just simple cereal, it all goes in and out our body anyway. How do you guys think we could help reduce hunger in different countries around the world and U.S? Thoughts on Hunger in general? Think about homeless people as well who are barely getting by with spare change, is poverty a choice? Ending hunger would be a huge improvement and achievement, we know of it but many don’t know how they can contribute to this worldwide problem. I think world problems like hunger or food waste should be given more attention, it’s an important matter the world should know more about in order to give opportunity and chance for people to commit and contribute to making the world a better place. I believe learning more about this topic can help us learn more about the source of the problem and what we can do to help others, every change starts with ourselves.

  1. I didn't know we were supposed to talk about our topic we picked but I'll be talking about food marketing and advertisement

  2. I agree with the article because instead of just throwing away the food why don't people use it to feed the hungry. I feel like the grocery stores should take the food down a week before it goes bad then donate it to soup kitchens.

  3. The food waste topic gets me so mad because there are so many people that are hungry that need the perfectly good food that goes straight to the trash can. There has to be a better way to go about this problem, especially when there are hungry people right here in the U.S. I think that grocery retailers and fast food chains should make a better effort to donate all of the food they don't use in a particular day to homeless shelters in their area. Although this is just a small idea, I believe it will make a huge impact on our society. By donating this food we would be feeding so many people while saving money at the same time. Think about this. If the food is donated to homeless shelters, people will be able to eat, but the shelters don't have to spend money on food. I don't even know if something like this is possible, but I think it's a pretty good idea. Thank you for talking about this. I'm sure people will find this to be useful.

  4. Your post falls exactly along the lines of my topic about food waste and how it can be used to feed world hunger. I agree that this should be given more attention as we all live on this planet. To contribute to humanity means we must address those in poverty and not waste the food we take for granted. I believe poverty is not a choice people make. People in poverty are struggling, and it's our duty as human-beings to do something about it.
