How feeding our faces are leading to fatter humans and environmental problems

Being one of the many students who eat the school lunches provided for us in the cafeteria, I see loads of cereal bowls, muffins, bagels, and even fruits and juices not getting put out for us to eat. Either not eaten or just in the back in half-empty half-full boxes. So where does the food that is not opened go? In the trash, as if no students want an extra apple or yogurt with granola.
But my topic is not about school lunches getting wasted alone. My topic is about food waste as a whole in America and how we are able to reduce the amount of food going to the dump and what the food in the dump is going to the air we live and breathe in. The link below is attached to an article discussing these topics. Specifically, “The progressive increase of food waste in America and its environmental impact” by Kevin D. Hall stresses the increase of oil production and usage since the demand of food has increased (and how it continues to increase) and how the people of this country miscalculate their food intake by eating much more than our past generations.
When I was younger, I would look through family photo albums and notice how slim was family used to be and realize that my is large in people and weight. Studying this topic will help me understand why my family continues to grow due to the quantity of food they are eating how much to reduce the environmental harm we are doing to feed our mouths as humans.

  1. During my research I came across the article you are referring to above. I am also interested in learning about how we can reduce the amount of food waste, because I had no idea how much food was being wasted each year. (Not only in the U.S but other countries as well) I just finished reading an article that talked about how we are producing more food than we need, but none of our excess food was being given to people who are in need of it. Not only does wasting food affect our environment but it changes the way people eat which can include overeating or not eating enough.

    1. Yeah, when I saw the numbers, I was extremely shocked. It actually made me really sad too in the light of the fact there are people who I see in my own community in need of food. Do you think you would be able to send the link to me please? I am interested in reading the article are you talking about. Thank you!

  2. Although thus is not the topic i chose to write about, i am very interested in ways to diminish food waste globally. Food waste is a very unfortunate matter, especially because it occurs in many of our homes. It would be great if the government did more to put an emphasis on food waste because many families are affected by it. If we did not waste so much food due to excessive productions of food and wasting in general, we would have less starving people in this world.
