So far every campus I have visited has mentioned the topic of studying abroad. They say it is a great way to meet new people, experience different cultures, explore new interests, and become independent. Personally, it is fascinating to me, but I am not the kind of person to step out of my comfort zone. I guess that is why I am considering studying abroad in the future. Being an apprehensive person, I often think about how I will grow as a person because it is sometimes difficult to try new things. I looked up some of the pros and cons that come with studying abroad to see if it was worth experiencing. The pros included more study opportunities, adapting to new ways of living, developing independent skills, and learning valuable life lessons. On the other hand, some of the cons included homesickness, expenses, inability to communicate, culture shock, and the possibility of falling behind on studies.
My questions for you are: Would you like to study abroad? If so, where would you like to go? What do you think about the pros and cons for studying abroad? Do you agree or disagree?
I really like this topic, because we all consider studying abroad as students, but only a small percentage of students actually decide to go to a foreign country and attend a university there! I would like to go study in a Central American country, and really discover life down there. My older sister had the opportunity to study abroad in Australia this past summer. Although she got a little homesick and her student loans are piling up, she has no regrets and says it was definitely worth the experience! She explored Australia, as well as islands off the coast! I think after seeing her experience, traveling is definitely a idea I have for my future.
ReplyDeleteI would love to study abroad and plan on doing so during my later years of college. I’ve always wanted to study abroad because I love the idea of culture immersion and getting to learn, first hand, how different people live. Studying abroad just makes sense for what I’m planning on majoring in. I either want to major in intercultural studies or anthropology which, both focus on other countries and cultures. I love studying the lives of others and studying abroad would (obviously) be a great way to do that. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if it was required for my major. Honestly, I would be happy to go anywhere to study abroad. I can see how the expenses could start to add up, but I think the overall experience and skills learned while studying abroad is well worth the money!
