College Requires Dedication

College requires a lot more attention and dedication than we’re all used to in High School. I noticed this when my sister went to college and had to push herself to be successful, when, in High School, getting good grades was easy. This concerns me because throughout high school, my constant thought is “what is the least amount of work that I can do to still get a good grade on this assignment” and I know in college, this mindset won’t help me at all. The thing I am most concerned about is how I am going to best keep up with my classwork and juggle other responsibilities. I’m definitely going to have to change how I look at assignments and school itself because college is a whole different game that requires hard work and dedication. Have you thought about how you are going to continue to be a good student in college? Are you concerned that the effort you put into work in High School won’t get you very far in college? How are you going to improve your mindset?

  1. I've been thinking about this, too. Like even though I'm just going to community to finish my GE, like it's still going to be a bit different than high school. I think most of it pertains to time management. As long as you can manage your time, then I'm pretty sure you can complete your assignments before it's deadline and you know you've put all your effort into it. It's definitely a good idea to get into the habit of using a planner or a calendar to help plan things out evenly.

    1. I would agree! I need to start getting into the habit of managing assignments and writing them down onto a planner, I would definitely feel a lot more organize, so this weekend I will start by purchasing a planner along with different colored pens, and see if I can really change my time management.

  2. I think in college I will have to push myself to work a lot more than I did in high school. In high school I have learned to put in my best effort at times, but I have also learned how to get by with doing the minimum amount when I did not feel like working as much. In college I won't have time to waste because I will have more responsibilities to keep up with. I hope by being kept busy I will stay on track and focus without falling behind or procrastinating.

  3. This post definitely addresses some of the questions I ask myself as well. At times I do believe that the strategy I use with a good chunk of my assignments, which is to do a minimal amount of work, will never stand a chance against college classes. This habit of mine will be difficult to break but have confidence in myself that if I start changing my work ethic now early on in senior year, I will be able to go into college and be better prepared. I also hope to improve my time management skills even more going into college. I have made a great improvement in the past year, but I think that there is still room left for improvement.
